SCAPAS

Digital Passport for Part Traceability Across Supply Chain

Servitizacion

The SCAPAS Platform is a technology solution that provides a Digital Passport to each part manufactured in a value stream. This passport includes information about material and process details from each manufacturing step, and also records lifecycle event for the part, and it can be shared across the supply chain to allow visibility and enable data-based optimization initiatives

SCAPAS Digital Product Passport. How it works

SCAPAS is a complete solution that provides a digital passport for parts manufactured within a supply chain, containing comprehensive process information from each manufacturing step, which can be shared across different agents with the right governance

[icon] A “digital stamp” is added on the SCAPAS Passport of a product at each relevant manufacturing operation (ie. ARC-welding), and also at each relevant lifecycle event, such as a repair operation, reuse decision, or end-of-life recycle/disposal, enabling a cradle-to-grave tracking for a circular economy.

[icon] The DPP stamp is a data object that uniquely identifies the part and manufacturing step/event, and includes Manufacturing & Sustainability info on how part was manufactured, material & energy consumption, etc.

[icon] DPP data is used for process optimization & sustainability, and to prove compliance & quality, for increased competitiveness across the supply chain.

The SCAPAS solution consists of:
– An Edge Connector to collect manufacturing data from COROB Data Acquisition platform, and issue DPP stamps
– A Platform that receives the stamps, stores and manages the DPP
– A Data Space in the IDSA ecosystem for the exchange of DPP data

The data for the passport stamp is collected by SCAPAS Edge Connector from the COROB Digital data acquisition platform. Additional information can be added to the passport from multiple connections to factory assets (other equipment PLCs or sensors, Factory MES or ERP)

The SCAPAS Platform receives, stores and hosts the passport information from the different SCAPAS Edge Connectors across the supply chain.

Passport Information can then be queried and exchanged by authorized agents in the supply chain via a SCAPAS Data Space within the International Data Spaces platform in a secure, sovereign way based on use and policies, providing access control, data security.

SCAPAS Part Passport can expand its coverage across the complete value stream and add “stamps” from other manufacturing steps (TT, machining, painting,), logistics steps (transportation, storage) and product life events (repairs, reuse, recycle decisions), extending to downstream operators & customers, for complete traceability across supply chain and opening a window to more efficient and sustainable operation, and enabling a circular economy.

In addition to being deployed on industrial data acquisition platforms, the SCAPAS Edge Connector can run in a standalone gateway hardware running the ii40_Connect Edge Software (available from ii40Services) to publish passport data to the SCAPAS Platform.

SCAPAS also enables a market for the exchange of manufacturing data that can in turn feed AI tools for the extraction of insights, empowering high value optimization and sustainability activities.

Passport Data

The digital passport stamp registered in the DPP a digital data object that can record all relevant information of a product’s manufacturing step or lifecycle event.

This “digital stamp” includes:

  • A Part UUID, that uniquely identifies the part being manufactured or repaired
  • The identification of the Manufacturing Step (ie: ARC-welding) or Lifecycle Event (ie: recycle)
  • The datestamp of the manufacturing step or event
  • A unique cryptographic token & access policy defining who can access the data
  • A data placeholder for multiple Manufacturing & Sustainability Data Tags. This is a flexible data object and the specific tags and content vary depending on the application, and include among other things:
    • Identifiers for the the manufacturing equipment involved
    • Settings for the manufacturing process (ie: reference power, intensity, feed, …)
    • manufacturing instructions and standards applicable
    • CAD and other design files for the part, including both as-designed and as-built versions
    • Information on the subcomponents being assembled
    • Information on the material utilization, including traceability of materials & subcomponents, utilization and waste
    • Information on the energy use & environmental impact per product
    • Recording of Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) manufacturing process parameters (e.g. electrical parameters of the welding power supply: job, voltage, current, wire speed…)
    • Quality Controls / Inspections: including the automated register of measuring equipment (e.g. using thermography, ultrasonic, Acoustic Emission, Eddy Current or others)
    • Information on Non-Conformance-Report (NCR)
    • Customer Job Id details

SCAPAS Advantages

SCAPAS provides an innovative framework, with wing-to-wing infrastructure to cover the collection, storage and sharing of part information in a Digital Product Passport

SCAPAS connects seamlessly with COROB data platform, and with other industrial data collection systems, to gather all relevant information on the manufacturing steps and events for a comprehensive view.

This Digital Product Passport data can then be shared in a platform that ensures security and full data sovereignty

The introduction of the SCAPAS DPP represents a step change in the way goods are manufactured, adding an information layer that brings intangible value to the physical product in multiple areas:

– Visibility: information on the process, to identify optimization & sustainability opportunities

– Compliance: to ensure that process follows the regulations and standards at every step

– Sustainability: to measure and monitor energy and sustainability aspects

– Traceability: to demonstrate the quality of the product, and respond to claims

SCAPAS inherits a unique industrial sensitivity to collect and process relevant manufacturing information from different sources

SCAPAS establishes a flexible and robust passport data structure that allows interoperability across the supply chain, including external 3rd parties

SCAPAS leverages the infrastructure, governance and policies of the IDSA, and benefits from the scale and support by major players in IT & Industry (Microsoft, Volkswagen, SICK, DT)

SCAPAS architecture can adapt to different customer data sensitivities and sophistication, with on-premise vs. cloud options, and delegated vs. direct DPP sharing roles

Environmental Impact

The proposed SCAPAS DPP is perfectly aligned with the objectives of the EU’s European Green Deal (EGD) and Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), and provides a technology-based solution to implement the requirements in the regulation.

As Europe pushes for net-zero emissions by 2050, the sustainability information in the DPP shows the product’s environmental and safety impact, with the associated greenhouse gas emission and hazardous materials, and motivates the businesses to take action and contribute to the desired sustainable future.

Additionally, the manufacturing and supply chain information in the DPP enhances transparency and coordination, highlighting hotspots and inefficiencies to be addressed individually by manufacturers and jointly at supply chain level.

Also, the lifecycle information in the SCAPAS DPP enables complete tracking of the product from cradle to grave, supporting the circular economy and promoting end-of-life reuse and recycling options.

In addition to these positive impacts on sustainability, efficiency and circularity, European citizens will benefit from a more trustworthy and compliant supply chain, and will have the power to make informed choices.

European manufacturers will also benefit from an increased competitiveness vis-à-vis other lower cost competitors, due to the increased visibility provided by the DPP on adherence to quality standards and regulations.

The DPP data-sharing marketplace included in SCAPA solution is also line with the European Data Strategy that strives to become leaders in a data-driven society.

Finally, the SCAPAS DPP provides a way to comply with European regulations mandating the use of DPP, which are expected to come into force in the next 5 years
